Group Therapy
Group Therapy is a form of psychotherapy in which one or more practitioners treat a small group of patients together as a group. Group therapy members are able to listen to each other's experiences, providing sympathetic understanding and feedback.
Examples of support groups include:
- addiction
- depression
- grief and loss
- divorce
- chronic illness
- therapeutic lifestyle change
- elder caregivers
Group therapy is usually used with a set of patients who have similar issues or life experience.
Group therapy may appear less intimate, but it is in fact the best treatment for some problems. The experience of discovering one is not alone, and of being able to help other people, is powerfully encouraging and is often the first step towards getting better.
